On September 1, 2002, Amtrak, Metrolink and Caltrans initiated an exciting new era for rail passengers called Rail 2 Rail. This multi-faceted program allows Southern Californians more train travel options through better connectivity and joint ticket acceptance at no additional cost
"Rail 2 Rail is about convenience. It's about giving passengers the option to choose the train that works best with their schedule," said Caltrans Director Will Kempton. "But this is only the beginning. Metrolink, Amtrak and Caltrans are working together to coordinate their schedules, their fares and their ticketing to make the entire train experience easy, economical and enjoyable."
More Options
The Rail 2 Rail program allows Metrolink monthly pass holders along the Orange and Ventura County corridors to travel on Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains within the station pairs of their pass, including Saturday and Sunday. Metrolink passengers simply show their monthly pass and board any Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train to their destination. Amtrak Pacific Surfliner ticket holders can ride any Metrolink train between the same station pairs as their Amtrak ticket.
More Trains
Monthly pass holders can now ride 24 daily and 26 weekend Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains in addition to the 66 daily (Mon.-Fri.) scheduled Metrolink trains and 7 Saturday round trip and 6 Sunday round trip weekend Metrolink trains at no additional charge. Amtrak Pacific Surfliner ticket holders may ride any Metrolink train between Oxnard and Oceanside within the station pairs of their ticket.
Expanded Weekend Service
Rail 2 Rail also allows Metrolink monthly pass holders to ride Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains on weekends as well as weekend Orange County Service within the station pairs of their pass. This includes a total of 26 convenient Amtrak trains to choose from and flexible schedules that will make planning your weekends simple and fun.
On the weekend, Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains are a great way to get to favorite locations like San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Ventura (note: additional fee required for long distance travel). For special Amtrak weekend promotions and train schedules call (800) USA-RAIL or log onto www.amtrak.com.
